The web has transformed the way in which we broadcast and consume media. It has made content much more easily accessible to many more people and this undoubtedly is a very, very positive thing. Without it, we couldn’t do our work at all.
At PATIENTSTORIES we genuinely want as many people as possible to see our films. We think that we owe it to the very courageous people who have freely contributed their time and experiences for the benefit of others.
However, we live in a world where increasingly digital content is assumed to be free. It is perfectly possible for you to view our films on-line as many times as you like and to show them to whom ever you like at no cost. We have no real way of policing this, nor would we want to.
We are an independent social enterprise and receive no core funding or subsidy from government or the NHS. Our ability to continue to research and publish stories, and run this website, therefore relies on us generating revenue from licensing our materials for training and educational purposes and from occasional speaking engagements.
If you want to view our films on-line either for personal reflection or to share with a few colleagues, we are more than happy for you to do so at no direct cost. All we ask is that you sign-up as a subscriber to our website.
Don’t worry we promise not to spam you but it does help us with fund-raising to be able to quantify our user base and understand who is using the materials. We’ll also keep you in touch with new materials as they become available.
If however you are using our content for institutional or formal education and/or for commercial purposes then we ask you to make sure you buy the appropriate licence. If you don’t then it’s rather like illegally downloading music. The difference is that unlike musicians we don’t have Tour T-shirts to sell nor do we do many live gigs!
So, if you use the films regularly (either as an individual or institution) then please consider doing “the right thing” and getting the proper Educational/Organisational licence. You get quite a lot for your money and you’ll be helping us to carry on our work.
