“Beth’s Story” shortlisted for the Medical Journalists Association Winter Awards

January 20, 2012 by Murray Anderson-Wallace 1 Comment

PATIENTSTORIES Executive Producer, Murray Anderson-Wallace  has been shortlisted for an award from the Medical Journalists Association in the investigative / broadcast category for “Beth’s Story“

This moving and challenging documentary tells the story of the Bowen family following the tragic death of their daughter, Bethany during ‘routine’ surgery.  Following the trauma of his daughter’s death and the ‘torture’ of the inquest, Richard Bowen died suddenly of a massive heart attack aged 31 years.

Through Clare Bowen’s testimony, the film offers professionals the opportunity to explore the multiple ‘human factors’ that lead to Beth’s untimely death and to re-examine their own ideas and practice in relation to serious harm in the healthcare context.  Clare’s remarkable courage and humanity in the face of extreme tragedy is the hallmark of this powerful and provocative film.

The final winner will be announced on the 25th January 2012 at the Kings Fund in Central London.

Beth’s Story can be viewed on-line at no cost on this site and DVD copies are also be ordered at a cost of £30.  Additional materials including three short analysis and commentary films, a facilitators guide and learning workbooks are available to PATIENTSTORIES  subscribers.

I had spetoplasty in febuary 2011 which i have not recovered from with symptoms that are getting worse and really wanted to get accross to any other people that have had a bad experience with the n.h.s that there is a finer line between medical negligence and criminal complaints than first thought and although this is with out prejudice i have proven to myself that there is a system in our way that you can beat to get the treatment you need and to get heard if it has gone wrong. Im looking for any patients that have had any unusual experiences in hospital that has caused you to make a medical complaint that has been difficult to explain.
